233 parliamentarians voted for the adoption of the document, while a minimum of 226 votes was required for its approval.

As stated in the explanatory note, the initiative is aimed at achieving Ukraine's energy independence, expanding citizens' access to modern technological solutions, improving the level of service and reducing tariffs for passenger transportation, as well as creating conditions for reducing the price and, as a result, increasing the popularity of electric transport.

At the same time, in the second reading, the people's deputies did not support the proposal to abolish the value added tax for such cars. Despite this, the elimination of the import duty of 10% already gives reason to expect a decrease in the cost of electric cars for domestic buyers.

It is worth recalling that not so long ago, Ukrainian drivers preferred cars with gasoline engines. After the rise in fuel prices, interest shifted towards diesel modifications, as has long happened in European countries. Demand for hybrids combining a traditional engine with an electric one has also noticeably increased. However, in the last couple of years, exclusively electric models have become especially popular - their sales have grown several times. Today, the Ukrainian market offers a fairly wide range of such cars - from budget options to premium ones.
