It should be noted that in the "Traffic Rules Lessons" section, AutoPortal has more than once analyzed the passage of some roundabout intersections, but our readers continue to bombard us with letters asking to clarify and explain the same thing. This material collects various examples. We tried to literally "chew" all the nuances.
Kyiv, intersection of Kurbas and Kartvelishvili streets (Borshchahivka, "Kolibrys")
Question: can a driver, moving in the far right lane, make a left turn at the roundabout?

Answer: in this case, he can turn, but to avoid emergency situations, it is necessary to take the required lane before the intersection. At the intersection itself, priority signs must be observed, and all maneuvers must be accompanied by appropriate light signals.

Clause 10.4 of the Ukrainian Traffic Rules states: before turning right, left, or making a U-turn, the driver must take in advance the appropriate extreme position on the roadway intended for movement in this direction, except when turning when entering an intersection where roundabout traffic is organized, the direction of movement is determined by road signs or road markings, or movement is possible only in one direction established by the configuration of the roadway, road signs, or road markings.
It should be noted that clause 11.2 of the Ukrainian Traffic Rules prescribes: "on roads with two or more lanes for movement in one direction, non-rail vehicles must move as close as possible to the right edge of the roadway, except when overtaking, bypassing, or changing lanes before turning left or making a U-turn.
Clause 10.5: the turn must be performed so that when leaving the intersection of roadways, the vehicle does not end up in the oncoming lane, and in the case of a right turn, one should move closer to the right edge of the roadway, except when leaving an intersection where roundabout traffic is organized, where the direction of movement is determined by road signs or road markings, or where movement is possible only in one direction.
Based on the rules, we can conclude - before entering a roundabout intersection, you must take the lane you need in advance. However, the rules do not prohibit entering a roundabout intersection from any lane. Also, the rules do not prohibit changing lanes at such intersections. Naturally, if the traffic order at such an intersection is not determined by road signs or markings.
Kyiv, intersection of Mayakovsky and Saburov streets.
Question: A three-lane road approaches the roundabout intersection. In this regard, there are the following questions:
1. which lane should be taken before the intersection to drive:
• straight;
• turn right;
• turn left;
2. Is it possible to change lanes from the right to the left lane on the roundabout to continue driving straight?

Answer:
1. To drive straight or turn left, you can enter the intersection from any lane. But after entering the roundabout, the two right lanes lead the flow to the right, so to drive straight or turn left, you need to change lanes to the left. To turn right, you need (and preferably in advance) to change into one of the two rightmost lanes.
2. You can change lanes from one lane to another on the roundabout.
Kyiv, intersection of Marshal Yakubovsky and Yuri Smolych streets (Teremky-2).
Question: Can a driver turn into a residential area, before the traffic light in the gap of the double axial line, or must he "spin around" on the roundabout?

Answer: In this case, you can turn, since there are no road signs or markings prohibiting this maneuver.
At this intersection, road signs 3.23 (left turn prohibited), 4.1 (go straight), 4.4 (go straight and right), 5.16 (direction of movement by lanes), 5.18 (direction of movement by lane) are absent. Also, road marking 1.18 (direction of movement by lanes) is absent. Accordingly, nothing obliges the driver to spin around on the roundabout, so you can make a left turn in the gap of the double solid line 1.3.

Recall that earlier we wrote about priority when starting to move and changing lanes.
