The news that driver's licenses and vehicle registration certificates became more expensive on May 21, 2013, appeared only on the website of the capital's traffic police department. For some reason, there was no information about the price change for "plastic" on the portal of the Department of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Apparently, the department did not consider it necessary to organize a press conference or make a special mailing for the media — the question, as they say, remained rhetorical.
How much prices have increased
Correspondents of AvtoPortal managed to find out that "plastic" has risen in price by 39.9 UAH. It is by this amount that both the license and the vehicle registration certificate will now cost more.
If before the registration of a domestic car or a car assembled in CIS countries, with the issuance of state license plates, cost 495 UAH 53 kopecks excluding VAT, now for this service you will have to pay 535 UAH 43 kopecks excluding VAT.
Registration of a foreign-made car with obtaining state plates was previously estimated at 533 UAH 05 kopecks excluding VAT. Now the rates have increased to 572 UAH 95 kopecks excluding VAT.
It is not difficult to guess that for other types of vehicles, the registration or re-registration procedure has also risen in price by the same 39.9 hryvnias.
For example, registration or re-registration of a motorcycle with the issuance of plates now costs 448.63 UAH for equipment produced in the CIS and 486.15 UAH for imported models.
As for the driver's license, for its issuance or replacement you now need to pay 273.80 UAH.
Bank fees
At first glance, 39.9 UAH is not a very significant amount. And that is indeed the case. However, do not forget that a bank commission is also added to it.
The amount of the commission depends on the specific bank and the payment amount, but on average for transactions in the range of 350-600 hryvnias it is about 30 UAH. That is, these expenses should be added to the prices listed above.
It is worth noting that the MREO have already switched to new tariffs and carry out registration procedures taking into account the increase in the cost of "plastic".
Price list for "beautiful" plates
Earlier, AvtoPortal already wrote about how much "beautiful" state plates cost on the black market. Now we have decided to publish the official rates for license plates with striking digit combinations that can be obtained legally. The data is current as of May 21, 2013.
Plates with combinations "0001-0005, 0007-0009, 5555, 7777" (including the vehicle registration certificate and traffic police services) will cost 20,400 hryvnias for cars from the CIS and 20,438 hryvnias for foreign cars.
Combinations "1111, 2222, 3333, 4444, 8888, 9999" are estimated at 10,400 hryvnias for cars produced in the CIS and 10,438 hryvnias for foreign cars.
Variants "0006, 6666" will cost 7,900 hryvnias for CIS cars and 7,938 hryvnias for foreign cars.
Let us remind you that formally, other state plates are available to anyone. But in practice, there is also an unofficial price list:
State plates with three identical digits ("9994", "8881", etc.) — $500
State plates containing "777" — $700
State plates with three digits where "0" is at the beginning or end — $500-$700
State plates with "000" at the beginning ("0005", "0007") — $5000-$7000
State plates with "000" at the end ("5000", "7000") — $1000 (with the combination "6000" — $500-$700). An alternative is having acquaintances or relatives in the traffic police
State plates with repeating digits ("2299", "3388") — $300 (combination "2277" — $400-$500 due to the hype associated with the use of this combination by the Chernovetsky family. True, in today's times, the desire to be associated with this family looks rather dubious.
State plates with repeating combinations ("2929", "3838") — $300 (for variants with zeros, they may ask for more)
Mirror state plates ("1551", "4664") — $250-$300 (depending on the set of digits. For example, for "8008" or "9009" they may ask for more than $300)
State plates with ascending digits ("5678", "3456") — $250-$300
