Volvo V50: prices and specifications

1 generations Country of origin: Sweden

The Volvo V50 station wagon replaced the V40 model, which had been produced since 1999. It is built on the basis of the S40 sedan. The letter "V" in the name, according to Volvo tradition, indicates a station wagon body, and the number "50" denotes the fifth model of this type in the brand's modern lineup.

The concept of the future car was first shown in 2005 at the Detroit Auto Show. To create the new model, engineers lengthened the wheelbase of the S40 sedan, made the rear suspension stiffer, and refined the engines and transmissions. The body was given a shape reminiscent of a speedboat, while the front end stylistically echoed the S40. Thanks to its spaciousness and high level of safety, the station wagon quickly gained popularity in North America and Europe.

Three years later, at the New York Auto Show, the second generation of the V50 debuted. The car retained the strict appearance characteristic of the Swedish brand but received updates: a new radiator grille, headlights, taillights, as well as front and rear bumpers. Inside, the design of the instrument panel and center console changed, the quality of trim materials and sound insulation improved — the latter was a frequent complaint from owners of the first-generation station wagon. The second generation also received improved active and passive safety systems, making it one of the best in its class in this regard. In 2011, the station wagon underwent a minor facelift, and in 2012 it was discontinued, making way for the revived V40 model.

In Ukraine, the Volvo V50 was sold until mid-2012. The car was equipped with a wide range of engines: gasoline engines with displacements of 1.8, 2.0, 2.4, and 2.5 liters, as well as diesel engines with displacements of 1.6, 2.0, and 2.4 liters. The engines were paired with 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions, two types of automatic transmissions with manual mode, and a 6-speed "robot". Drive — front.
