Toyota Tundra
Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck that the Japanese manufacturer developed specifically for the North American market. The model replaced the Toyota T100. The name of the car translates from English as "tundra".
First generation
The first generation of the pickup was created as a successor to the T100 model, produced from 1993 to 1998. The new car inherited much from its predecessor, and its prototype was initially called T150. Before the start of mass production, the company's management decided to give the car a meaningful name — Tundra. This pickup became the first model of the brand with a "wooden" name. In addition, the change of the original name was caused by the fact that one of the main competitors of the model, the Ford F-150, had a similar name. Technically, the prototypes were almost no different from the T100, but the design of the new product was completely different. Japanese specialists Hideo Kondo and Yusuke Fukushima worked on the exterior.
The official debut of the first generation took place in 1999, and full-scale production began a year later. The car was produced in three body variants: two-door Regular Cab and two four-door versions — Access Cab and Double Cab. The pickup was offered with two wheelbases: standard (for Regular Cab and Access Cab) and extended (for Double Cab). Under the hood, three gasoline engines were installed, working in conjunction with a manual or automatic transmission. In terms of dimensions, the new product was inferior to large American pickups, but was more affordable in price. In 2005, the model underwent a restyling: in addition to external changes, the car received improved engines, new transmissions, and slightly increased in size.
Second generation
The second generation of the Toyota Tundra was presented in 2006 at the Chicago Auto Show. The car significantly grew in dimensions and moved from the class of mid-size to full-size pickups. The Access Cab modification was discontinued, and instead the Crewmax version appeared. From that moment, the model had three wheelbase options — one for each modification.
The new generation received a number of design features: a body organization system, a more convenient mechanism for opening the body doors, and other solutions. The design was developed by American specialist Craig Kember. The car was equipped with new gasoline engines, which were paired with modernized transmissions.
In 2013, a restyled version of the pickup was presented at the Chicago Auto Show.
Toyota Tundra in Ukraine
In Ukraine, the Toyota Tundra of the second generation appeared in 2008 and is sold through a network of independent brand dealers. The model is offered in all three modifications. It is equipped with gasoline engines with a volume of 4.0, 4.7, and 5.7 liters, which work in conjunction with a five- or six-speed automatic transmission. The drive of the car is rear or all-wheel drive.
