Aston Martin Vantage: model history
Aston Martin Vantage is a sports car from the British brand that became a separate model line after being a high-performance version of other models for fifty years. The name translates from English as "advantage."
The Vantage name first appeared in 1951, when Aston Martin released the most powerful modification of the DB2 model. Over the next half-century, this prefix was applied to the DB4, DB5, DB6, and V8. In 1972, the company introduced a limited series of coupes called Vantage. The decision to create an independent Vantage family was made in the early 2000s. The AMV8 Vantage concept was ready by 2003, and the official premiere of the production model took place in 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show. In 2006, the Vantage convertible was shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The design was developed by Henrik Fisker.
The bodies of both versions were made of aluminum, which reduced curb weight. The convertible was heavier than the coupe, but this did not affect its dynamics. The model was produced in several special editions: Prodrive V8 Vantage, N400, V8 Vantage S, V12 Vantage, V12 Zagato. Since 2007, the company has also produced rally modifications — GT4, V12 Vantage GT3, Grand Am, and Rally GT.
In 2008, the Aston Martin Vantage underwent a planned facelift. The exterior and interior received minor changes, and the engines, transmissions, and suspension were updated.
