In 2006, Alfa Romeo launched the Spider roadster, replacing the Spider 916 convertible that had been produced since 1995. The model's design was developed by Pininfarina. Essentially, the Spider was a body variant of the Brera model: it used the same platform, the same gasoline and diesel engines, as well as similar transmissions. Production of the roadster ended in 2010.
