Fiat 500 - stylish, but expensive

October 3, 2008 · A discussion from the forum archive

The 500th looks very bright, but the price is clearly inflated.
Strange, but why then is it not considered that the Mini is too expensive? It's an image car, after all!
Because Mini offers BMW-level handling and excellent build quality, which cannot yet be said about Fiat.
For me, Fiat has never been an image car. Mini or Lancia — yes, but Fiat — no.
The model is quite capable of claiming to be an image car, but I wouldn't risk drawing parallels with Mini — these are cars of a completely different class.
Guys, based on your answers, it seems like you've only seen this car in photos. As for handling — believe me, the Fiat drives just as well as an Alfa or Lancia.
That it is managed like Alfa and Lancia, especially Ypsilon, I have no doubt. But in Europe there are companies that are not part of the Fiat concern (imagine that). And we all know how to look at pictures.

My answer, actually, was about your remark on handling.
As they say, there's no accounting for taste.
Many can deny that the car is good, but then how to explain the title "Car of the Year"?
I'm not saying the '500th' is bad. I just explained why the Mini costs more.
Beautiful car, no argument there. But there are questions about the build quality and fit of parts. Overall, the machine is not bad.
AKSAKAL: Ukrainians should feel a special affinity for the "five hundredth", because its ancestor gave us our "hunchbacked" "Zaporozhets", which gave life to the ZAZ automobile plant. In addition to the title of "Car of the Year-2008", the 500th also became the best in Germany in classes A, B and C (according to "Auto Bild" magazine), where it far outpaced the quite worthy "Mazda-2" and "Ford Focus". Moreover, in 2007 it won the European competition for the best design EuroCarBody-2007 and took first place in safety in its class in the EuroNCAP crash test. In general, European experts have given many awards to this bright Italian, and we can either agree with them or express disagreement on certain points, as AutoDima does, who has not yet tried to compare the "Mini" with the "Fiat 500 Abarth".
Well, let's compare the Fiat 500 Abarth, but only with the MINI Cooper S, and even better with the MINI John Cooper Works, and see who wins :)

The elder has already given a detailed answer twice, but despite the correct login and password, the moderator rejected it both times. Perhaps the issue is that, unlike most comments, it contained not a single rude word, and all arguments were presented strictly according to official data that is easy to verify. I'll try to send the answer a third time. If the moderator's reaction does not change, I will post the same text for Avtodyma on another car forum and leave a link. However, there I will separately mention how things stand with freedom of speech on 'Autoportal': I entered the correct login and password twice, and the moderator, as if joking, claimed they were incorrect.
Dear Aksakal, you can answer on all car sites from the top twenty of the Bigmir rating, with or without imagination, but this will not improve your skills in working with the Autoportal forum. By the way, when sending a message, moderation does not work, and my advice: when entering your login and password, check the keyboard layout and the state of the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys — sometimes this really helps.
Tell me, are you really selling MINI? You praise this outdated model so zealously. I have nothing against them, but a person's choice is determined not only by who overtakes whom. That's what I think.
inchikru I'm not selling a MINI, so there's no point in me aggressively praising it or persuading anyone to switch to it. If you read my messages carefully, it becomes clear that I wasn't the one who started comparing the 500 and the MINI. In my opinion, these cars can't be put on the same level for several reasons. To illustrate: it's like comparing Toyota and Lexus — they seem similar, but the differences are obvious.
Probably, that's true. But I recently got a 'Cinquecento' and, to be honest, I was quite satisfied. First of all, it's a fresh model with character and its own history. Maybe the Mini is cooler, but personally, the 'Cinquecento' is closer to my spirit. I first saw it in Italy and immediately knew I wanted one. Besides, behind this toy-like exterior hides a full-fledged car — in the 1.4 Sport version, it can give many cars on our roads a run for their money. Secondly, the sum of 650 thousand rubles seems much more reasonable than a million or more for a car that plays a secondary role in the family. At least for me. And also: it's definitely worth its money. A good, beautiful, stylish little car that you really want to get behind the wheel of from time to time.
This topic appeared a year and a half ago, when prices for the 500th were somewhat different. Now it has become noticeably more affordable, and 122 thousand hryvnias is a quite reasonable amount. So this topic has already lost its relevance.
What heated debates there were here. Looking back at those years, perhaps the price tag for the "five hundredth" was indeed inflated.
