The last Zaporozhets rolled off the ZAZ assembly line

September 22, 2008 · A discussion from the forum archive

There is no limit to the joy of this news! :) Hurray!!!
What is there to be happy about? It was the most affordable car on the market, yet quite reliable and well-assembled, at least for its price. Now the cheapest will be the Chinese rattle Chery QQ, from which it's completely unclear what to expect.
Now the domestic auto industry is Lanos, and UkrAvto saw further development exactly this way. Slavuta has already become outdated, so its discontinuation is a step forward.
What, a Lanos with a Chinese engine is already the 21st century? Any self-respecting manufacturer, before taking a model off the assembly line, always prepares a replacement for it. The price difference between the Lanos and the Tavria is almost double, and they have been produced in parallel for about ten years. And the fact that UkrAvto wanted, with minimal investment, to boost the domestic auto industry on the Lanos alone without going bankrupt is clear without words.
The step forward failed — the "Slavuta" continues to be produced calmly, and no one is going to take it out of production. They would rather bring the "Tavria" back to the assembly line than discontinue the "Slavuta".

It looks like they will be assembling the Chery A13 — here is the link to the news.
I don't understand what the author of the first post was so happy about.
