Nissan Patrol is a legendary Japanese SUV that pioneered this class in the brand's lineup. The model name translates to "patrol."
First generation (series 40, 1951)
Production of the first generation began in 1951 at the Hiratsuka plant. Essentially, it was a copy of the American military Willys Jeep. The vehicle was powered by an engine from the Nissan 290 bus, had rear-wheel drive, and a four-speed manual transmission. It was offered in two body styles: a three-door SUV and a pickup, as well as a fire truck version. In 1955, the range of gasoline engines expanded to four.
Second generation (series 60, 1950)
The second generation appeared in 1950. The manufacturer abandoned the "military" design and made the interior more comfortable. The model was offered with three wheelbase options (short, standard, long) and three body types: SUV, pickup, and convertible with a hard or soft top. The vehicle was equipped with one gasoline engine, two types of manual transmissions (three- and four-speed), and already had all-wheel drive. Assembly took place not only in Japan but also in India, South Africa, and the Philippines.
Third generation (series 160, 1980)
The third generation of 1980 became a fully civilian vehicle, devoid of any "military" traces. It was produced in the same three body versions, with rear-wheel drive (optional all-wheel drive). For the first time in the model's history, two diesel engines appeared, one of which was turbocharged, as well as a three-speed automatic transmission. In 1983, the model underwent a facelift that affected the design and technical content.
Fourth generation (1987)
The fourth generation, introduced in 1987, was a full-size SUV and radically different from its predecessors. The Patrol received a fully coil-spring suspension, new engines and transmissions, and only all-wheel drive. There were four body modifications: three- and five-door station wagon, two- and four-door pickup. The wheelbase was offered in standard or long versions.
Fifth generation (1997)
The fifth generation debuted in 1997. It retained four body options but received new engines and upgraded transmissions. In 2004, a global facelift was carried out.
Sixth generation (since 2010)
The sixth generation has been produced since 2010. The model is available in only one body type, equipped with two engines and four transmission options to choose from.
In Ukraine, the sixth-generation Nissan Patrol has been sold since 2011. The vehicle is equipped with a 5.6-liter gasoline engine paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Drive — all-wheel drive.
