The reason for a new meeting with the Ford Focus was the appearance of a version with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine producing 125 horsepower.
This four-cylinder engine from the Duratec family is already familiar to us from other Ford models — it has been installed on Mondeo and Focus C-Max for several years. Now this engine has also appeared in the Russian-assembled Focus. Thus, the number of available powertrains for the model has grown to six, which, of course, makes the buyer's choice even more difficult.
In terms of its character, the 1.8-liter engine is in many ways reminiscent of the two-liter one. At low revs, there is a lack of traction — to start off confidently, you have to rev the engine up to 2500–3000 rpm. In addition, the electronic throttle pedal noticeably smooths out the response. But after 3000 rpm, there is a steady, without dips, build-up of speed up to a maximum of 7000 rpm. At a speed of 120 km/h, the traction reserve is also quite good, which makes overtaking on the highway calm. Otherwise, the Focus is without surprises. The five-speed manual gearbox is distinguished by precise gear selection and clarity of operation, which has already become the norm for Ford. Handling is excellent: responses to the steering wheel are fast, precise, and sharp.
