MG3 Cross
The compact B-class city hatchback started production in December 2010. Buyers are offered two petrol engines: a 1.3-liter with 88 hp and a 1.5-liter with 109 hp. Both units can work with a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. Drive — only front.
History
The MG3 Cross is a city crossover from the British brand Morris Garages, owned by the Chinese Nanjing Automobile Group. The model is aimed at young drivers. In Ukraine, only the off-road version called Cross is available. It was presented in China in 2011. The car is based on the regular MG3 and differs from it with protective body cladding, different bumpers, and unique interior design. Initially, sales of the Cross outside China were not planned, but due to market demand, the car began to appear in other countries.
The crossover has conditional off-road capability: ground clearance is slightly increased (164 mm), and drive remains only front. After entering the Ukrainian market, the MG3 Cross became the most affordable model in the "city crossover" segment. In addition, it is equipped with an automatic transmission. Dimensions: length — 4079 mm, width — 1739 mm, height — 1528 mm, wheelbase — 2520 mm. The Cross version differs from the standard MG3 with bumpers, protective moldings, roof rails, and original alloy wheels. The 1.5-liter engine (108 hp) accelerates the car to 180 km/h with a manual gearbox and to 177 km/h with a robotic one.
On the Ukrainian market, a version with a 1.3 L engine (88 hp) is also available, which can be with a "robot" or a conventional gearbox.
Even in the basic configuration, the MG3 Cross is well-equipped: two front airbags, ABS, EBD, CBC, music center, air conditioning, and trip computer. Wheels — 16-inch alloy, already in the base.
Exterior
The appearance of the MG3 Cross does not resemble Chinese design solutions, as the development was carried out by British specialists. That is why dealers try not to emphasize Chinese assembly, highlighting the British origin of the brand.
The car stands out with a bright color palette and a harmonious silhouette without noticeable flaws in the lines.
Interior
In the MG3 Cross, the cabin is spacious despite the compact external dimensions. Ergonomics are at a good level, with no serious complaints.
The front seats have sufficient lateral support but seem a bit flat. Unlike many Chinese cars, it is comfortable even for tall people. The plastic on the doors and dashboard is hard but does not emit unpleasant odors even after prolonged exposure to the sun. In the back row, three short passengers in winter clothes will be cramped, but two will be quite comfortable.
The trunk for a small hatchback is decent — 256 liters. Folding the rear seat backs increases the volume to 938 liters, allowing the transport of bulky items, but without rear passengers.

Safety
Euro NCAP conducted a crash test of the MG3 Cross. Contrary to expectations, the model showed a relatively good result — three stars out of five. Although the car is inferior to European counterparts, among Chinese cars this is one of the best indicators.

The MG3 Cross is well-equipped: power steering, air conditioning, power windows, electric exterior mirrors, fog lights, CD player, alloy wheels. The top trim adds a sunroof. A wide selection of body colors and seats with combined upholstery are available.
Popularity in Ukraine
Almost all MG3 Cross units supplied to Ukraine are quickly sold out. Due to high demand, there is sometimes a shortage. Ukrainians' interest is driven by the pseudo-SUV appearance, affordable price, and good equipment — by these indicators, the model is considered one of the most attractive on the market.
Our Verdict
The MG3 Cross is a good option for a buyer with a limited budget who wants a car that looks like a crossover. The appearance and color palette are most suitable for an audience up to 35–40 years old.
