FAW V5 is a compact sedan produced by the Chinese automaker FAW. The model name stands for Vita (from Latin for "life"), and the number "5" corresponds to the C class according to the company's internal nomenclature.
History
The Vita family started with the compact city car C1. In the second half of the 2000s, plans were made to expand the lineup with a larger hatchback and sedan, and eventually a station wagon. However, the global economic crisis halted these plans, and the projects were temporarily frozen. FAW management returned to them only in 2010. Designers and engineers were tasked with creating a practical compact sedan, affordable for China's middle class and suitable for export to developing countries. The exterior of the model bears the influence of German Volkswagen — noticeable in the body structure, hood, grille, and bumpers. A new engine with an innovative fuel-saving system I-SAVE was developed for this model. The car also featured an intelligent passive safety system SMART-I-SAFE for the first time.
Test prototypes of the sedan underwent road trials for two years on tracks in China, Mongolia, and Russia — the company planned to introduce the model to the CIS market.
The FAW V5 was unveiled in 2012 at the Beijing Auto Show. Immediately after, the car began to be exported to Asian and Eastern European countries (CIS).
In Ukraine, sales of the FAW V5 started in 2013.
