FAW Besturn B50: model history
The FAW Besturn B50 is a mid-size business-class sedan. It was produced by the Besturn division, part of the First Chinese Automotive Corporation. The model name was selected using a computer algorithm and has no semantic meaning.
First generation (2008)
In 2005, the management of the Besturn brand approved the development of a business-class sedan that was to combine the characteristics of a family car and a vehicle for a mid-level manager. Following established Chinese practice, the model became a compilation of solutions from well-known European and Asian manufacturers. The platform was based on the first-generation Mazda6, powertrains were borrowed from the second-generation Volkswagen Jetta, and the exterior and interior design features elements of the Toyota Corolla. The first batch of test prototypes was assembled by 2007, and road tests took place in China and Russia.
The official debut of the FAW Besturn B50 took place in 2008 at the Beijing Auto Show. The car's exterior retained the features of the concept shown in Beijing a year earlier. The model's engine was refined: it was equipped with an electronic control system developed by Siemens engineers specifically for the Besturn line. The braking system was improved with the participation of Bosch specialists. Even in the base configuration, the car was equipped with alloy wheels, air conditioning, power windows for all doors, ABS+EBD, an anti-theft system, parking sensors, an onboard computer, and a multimedia system.
Official sales of the FAW Besturn B50 in Ukraine began in 2012. The sedan is powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine paired with a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Drive is front-wheel.
