BYD F7: history and specifications
The BYD F7 is a mid-size sedan that replaced the F6 model, which had been produced since 2008. In the name, the letter 'F' indicates its belonging to the D-class according to European classification, and the number '7' denotes its sequential number in this family.
The predecessor, the business-class sedan F6, did not achieve great commercial success, so the company decided not to update it but to release a new model. Development began in 2012 based on the 'six' platform. Since no major structural changes were required, engineers focused on refining existing components. However, management later abandoned the modernization of old F6 engines in favor of installing new, more powerful and fuel-efficient powertrains.
During test trials in China, designers tightened the rear suspension settings to improve handling. The car also received upgraded transmissions. Special attention was paid to safety: the number of airbags was increased, and the body side was reinforced with special beams. In the cabin, higher quality and more durable trim and upholstery materials were used, along with an expanded list of multimedia equipment.
The BYD F7 premiered in April 2013 at the Shanghai Auto Show.
The car is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. It is mated to a five- or six-speed manual transmission, as well as a six-speed dual-clutch transmission DCT. Drive is front-wheel.
