In terms of dimensions, the French coupe is almost as good as the "three" from Bavaria. And although the wheelbase of the three-door Laguna is 7 centimeters shorter than that of the five-door version, this car does not look shortened or deprived. Doors without frames, the interior is trimmed with leather, the front seats are spacious and have a sporty profile — everything is done solidly and expensively. But the front panel together with the instrument panel moved here directly from the hatchback — apparently, they decided to save money this way during the crisis. There are no special complaints about the location of buttons and knobs, except for the multimedia control "washer" on the center tunnel: to turn it, you will have to take your eyes off the road.
The new turbocharged diesel V6 confidently pulls from 1300 rpm and holds the pace up to 5000, where the limiter kicks in. There is no hint that the engine could break into a piercing howl — the 235-horsepower unit purrs so quietly that it is almost inaudible. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and almost imperceptibly... Any trip, and believe us, we drove the Laguna Coupe on a variety of roads, turns into a complete celebration — this is probably how sweet tooths feel when they get to an open day at a chocolate factory.
In our case, the role of chocolatier went to Renault engineers, who developed the 4Control all-wheel steering chassis. Understeer? Forget about it until the speedometer needle reaches the "60" mark. And then the system switches from maneuverability to stability, and in corners the rear wheels very confidently grip the asphalt.
