The new version of the KIA Sportage crossover can be described in two words — dry and comfortable. That's exactly how, briefly and to the point, we decided to present this trim, because its name speaks for itself.
The "Comfort Plus" equipment option is a logical step for those who choose the front-wheel-drive version but are not ready to put up with the meager base set of options. Previously, buyers of the front-wheel-drive Sportage had to make do with the minimum, but now the choice has become more meaningful.
The list of equipment of the new model can hardly be called poor. Here you have electric adjustments and heated mirrors, heated front seats, climate control, and an onboard computer. The steering wheel and gear shift knob are trimmed in leather, the interior has "metal-look" inserts, and the wheels are shod with wide 235 tires on 16-inch rims.
Although the technical content on paper looks rather modest, the driving impressions remain positive. Under the hood is a two-liter gasoline engine with 142 horsepower, paired with a five-speed manual. The engine pleases with its elasticity, and the gearbox with precise shifts. But there is, of course, no talk of any dynamics: at low revs the engine noticeably "bogs down," requiring revving, which affects acoustic comfort. Handling is also average, so active driving is not its forte.
But in the city, such a Sportage feels like a fish in water. The ground clearance of 195 millimeters allows you to ignore road irregularities. Fuel consumption stays at around 8 liters per hundred, which gives considerable freedom of movement. And the stability control system helps avoid many troubles in dense city traffic.
Ancestor
The first generation of the model debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1992. Within a year, the compact SUV appeared in the KIA lineup and for a long time became one of the most sought-after cars of the Korean brand. Economical engines, all-wheel drive, decent off-road capability, and a reasonable price — for this, the first generation Sportage more than once received the title of "Best Car of the Year" among light SUVs.
Driving
Buyers of this version are rational people, so average dynamics and handling indicators are unlikely to upset them.
Interior
The ergonomics proven over the years still work without complaints.
Comfort
There is enough space in the cabin, although the shape of the rear seat is not very convenient for long trips.
Safety
In the base trim, you will have to make do with only a driver's airbag.
Price
Against the background of competitors, the cost of the model looks quite justified.
Advantages and disadvantages
+ Rich equipment, economical fuel consumption, large ground clearance, spacious trunk.
- Weak dynamics, mediocre sound insulation, outdated design.
