Hyundai Solaris. Not budget

Last time we started the story about how the resource tests of the Hyundai Solaris hatchback are going. We continue the monologue

So, by the end of the period for which we received the Solaris, the car had clocked about 14,500 km. Of these, 6,500 km were on our part. We fell just short of the TO-1. That is, it will be done without us. However, most likely, it will be limited solely to the planned oil and oil filter change, because, judging by the sensations, the car is in perfect condition. No extraneous knocks in the suspension appeared, the pads, judging by their appearance, will last another thousand or more, the car starts without problems, and the engine is barely audible, as before. Perhaps only a warranty repair of the volume rocker on the steering wheel will be required. One day it stopped resisting pressing. At the same time, the volume was adjusted without problems.

Once, on one of the frosty days, a neighbor in the parking lot who drives a Solaris sedan advised not to fold the exterior mirrors in the cold, saying the mechanism breaks, and he had already been forced to contact an official dealer about this issue. We heeded the advice and did the opposite, that is, folded them at every convenient opportunity. However, even in the most severe frost, the mechanism worked without problems, and therefore we conclude that this defect applies to cars of a certain batch.

But the fact that snow and dirt quickly accumulate on the inner shelf of the standard alloy wheels seems to be a problem for all Solaris. Stand overnight in a snowstorm, and imbalance is guaranteed. Over time, we had to get a suitable stick-picker to remove this drift. Otherwise, it is simply impossible to drive.

The trunk was also appreciated, and although its opening is not very high, only 50 centimeters vertically, we still managed to stuff a 29-inch CRT TV into it without problems. True, if the "side" were lower, it would be even easier. The next measure for the trunk was an "adult" bicycle, which also fit without problems. True, in both cases we had to fully fold the seats. In general, a 370-liter trunk is more than enough for daily use.

The armrest, although it extends, is not long enough, and it is inconvenient to use

It was also pleasing that the car has foolproof protection. That is, you cannot start the engine without pressing the clutch. This function is very useful for those who are used to using first gear instead of the parking brake. Since we are talking about the transmission, we can say that during the entire test there were no complaints about its operation. Or almost none. Sometimes there was a smell of clutch during a sharp start in reverse gear, but otherwise everything is within normal limits.

In general, calling the Solaris a budget car is wrong. Tell me, in what other budget car will you find an optitronic instrument panel backlight or a multifunction steering wheel? (We do not take the platform mate Rio into account.) Or how do you like this feature: if not needed, the audio system monitor backlight can be turned off, but as soon as you touch any control knob, whether it is volume or radio tuning, the monitor immediately turns on. Convenient, undoubtedly, especially if you have a long night drive ahead, when extra light sources in the cabin only irritate.

No matter how hard we tried, we could not break the mirror folding lock. Apparently, complaints about this unit were from a certain batch of cars

But the armrest disappointed. Although it can extend, it is still inconvenient to use. Moreover, regardless of the set seat height. This is especially noticeable on those same long hauls. If only it were a little higher and a little longer. However, if we talk about the interior, this is the only drawback that really deserves to be noted.

As for driving characteristics, they are at a quite acceptable level. But the dynamics cause the most delight. And although in numbers it does not differ much compared to other cars of this class, in terms of sensations the Solaris literally tears from the spot. Braking dynamics are also up to par, so driving dynamically where it is safe is not difficult. The car obeys the steering wheel quite well, except that the steering could be a little tighter.

Now regarding operating costs. As can be seen from the table, they are not very high. In any case, not ruinous. That is, quite budget-friendly. But this is only in numbers. In reality, the Hyundai Solaris is not "budget" at all, and this cannot but please its owner.
