Snow-white Audi TT Roadster with a V-shaped "six", all-wheel drive and S-tronic robot is a real pass to a bohemian life. But, as it turned out quite soon, this life is not so cloudless: you have to pay twice as much as ordinary people for everything. The car wash attendant without hesitation classified the convertible as business class and issued a check for 500 rubles.
The new TT has grown noticeably compared to its predecessor: it has added 137 mm in length, 78 mm in width and 8 mm in height. The design remains one hundred percent recognizable, but the work of the artists shows an Italian trace. The spectacular rear lights with "hanging" rectangles of LEDs and mirrors with strips of turn signal repeaters immediately catch the eye.
The interior has impeccable quality of finishing. Natural leather and an abundance of metal inserts emphasize the status of the car.
Usually roadsters are completely unsuited for transporting bulky luggage. Here the situation is different: the trunk holds 250 liters, plus a special hatch for long items is provided. We start the engine, fold the roof — and off we go! True, you need to move slowly so that passers-by and neighbors in the flow have time to properly examine the car. The convertible really catches the eye. A special effect is produced by the roof, which folds and rises right on the move — up to 50 km/h.
The new TT is designed for two types of buyers. The first are blondes, whose route in one hundred percent of cases runs from the fitness club to the hairdresser, and then to the boutique. The car has everything you need: automatic transmission, a spacious trunk for boxes with fashionable new clothes, excellent handling and a light steering wheel for parking. But there is also a second category.
The V6 engine with direct injection, producing 250 hp, accelerates the convertible to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The robotic gearbox with two clutches and a well-tuned sport mode practically does not hesitate during acceleration, unlike traditional automatics. Electronically controlled Magnetic Ride shock absorbers in sport mode turn the glamorous convertible into a rigid racing car. It is also difficult to find fault with handling during dynamic driving. The light steering wheel at speed fills with informative heaviness. The roadster willingly dives into corners, not frightening with the understeer typical for Audi. The price for excellent handling is strong suspension breakdowns on uneven surfaces, both in sport and comfort modes. The sport suspension, alas, does not favor bad roads. But on the highway the TT confidently holds the straight line. After 120 km/h the rear spoiler automatically rises, which can also be extended manually with a button. Even at a speed of about 200 km/h the Audi obediently follows the driver's commands, not allowing any doubt in its reliability. Huge brakes with 340-millimeter discs at the front and 310-millimeter at the rear very effectively slow the car from high speeds.
Those who like to drive fast with the roof down should think about it. Already after 100 km/h, even with the wind deflector raised, a strong wind walks through the cabin, and after 150 km/h you can communicate with a passenger only by gestures.
However, as already mentioned, half of the buyers of the new TT will not rush headlong, enjoying the excellent chassis and overloads. But the second half will have a blast.
