Lexus LX: model history
The Lexus LX is a full-size SUV that became the first model of its class in the lineup of the brand created by Toyota specifically for the North American market. The model name is an abbreviation.
Toyota decided to build the first Lexus SUV based on the Land Cruiser (80 Series). The body structure, chassis, engines, and transmissions were inherited from the Japanese donor, but the Lexus was equipped exclusively with automatic transmissions. The new car received a unique exterior design, a more premium interior, and a softer suspension compared to the Land Cruiser. Perhaps this car would not have become a full-fledged Lexus model if not for the US government's plans to impose quotas on the import of Japanese SUVs. To avoid losing the important North American market, Toyota decided to develop an SUV under the Lexus brand in a short time frame.
The premiere of the first-generation Lexus LX took place in 1996 at the New York Auto Show.
Second generation
Just two years later, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Lexus introduced the second generation of the SUV. Like its predecessor, it was based on the new generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser (100 Series). The differences between the models concerned exterior design (grille, dual headlights, and other elements), interior, and suspension tuning. This generation featured a hydropneumatic suspension that allowed adjusting ground clearance. Starting in 2002, the manufacturer began gradually introducing more modern driver assistance systems into the car.
Third generation
The world premiere of the third-generation Lexus LX took place in 2007 at the New York Auto Show. The car grew significantly in size and received new components and assemblies. In 2012, the SUV underwent a facelift: it acquired a new grille in the current corporate style, updated lighting, and improved interior trim materials.
On the Ukrainian market
Sales of the updated Lexus LX in Ukraine began in the summer of 2012. The car is supplied to the country in an eight-seat version. The SUV is equipped with a single 5.7-liter gasoline engine (hence the name LX570), which works in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission. The car has all-wheel drive.
