Acura RLX: prices and specifications

1 generations Country of origin: Japan

The Acura RLX became the new flagship of Honda's premium division, replacing the large RL sedan. The model's name stands for "Refined Luxury Extra," meaning "extra refined luxury."

Acura management announced plans to create a successor for the RL back in 2007. Initially, it was assumed that this would not be a completely new model, but the fourth generation of the flagship. However, the global economic crisis of 2008 forced a pause in development, as well as freezing the creation of a new platform that would allow Acura to compete with BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The project was resumed only at the end of 2009. Two years later, it was decided to discontinue the RL and replace it with a new model, which received the working name RLX Concept. The official premiere of the concept took place in 2012 at the New York Auto Show.

The world premiere of the production Acura RLX took place at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The car became larger than its predecessor and acquired features of modern corporate style. From a technical standpoint, the model was equipped with a new engine, transmission, and an optional hybrid all-wheel drive system. Even in the base version, in terms of equipment level, the sedan came close to its competitors — the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

In Ukraine, the Acura RLX appeared in mid-2013. The car is sold only through unofficial dealers.

The car is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with an innovative Variable Cylinder Management™ system, which shuts off three of the six cylinders without loss of power to save fuel. The engine works in conjunction with a six-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission. The car's drive is front or all-wheel drive.
