The first generation of the flagship RL sedan entered the market in 1996 and, apart from its appearance, was almost identical to the Honda Legend. The second generation, launched in 2005, was equipped with the proprietary Super Handling-All Wheel Drive system. Under the hood, new 3.5-liter gasoline engines were installed, and from 2009, also a 3.7-liter engine. These engines were paired with a 5- or 6-speed automatic transmission.
