Self-propelled electric swing from Australia

June 16, 2011 · A reader note from the archive

Australian students have created an unusual vehicle — EDWARD (Electric Diwheel with Active Rotation Damping). It consists of two large wheels with a seat mounted between them. Beneath the seat is an electric motor that drives the wheels. Control is via a joystick. The device allows for easy multiple forward or backward flips. For driver safety, five-point racing harnesses are provided. The maximum speed of this "electric swing" is 40 km/h.
