Unique records of Barys. How did the hockey team make history?

Hockey in Kazakhstan is one of the most popular sports, consistently ranking among the top three disciplines by the number of fans. This public love is largely due to the performances of Barys, which represents the country in the KHL. Bet on hockey of the Kontinental Hockey League or on games of other tournaments is offered by the bookmaker Parimatch, which pays special attention to Kazakhstani athletes.

Barys is the most recognizable hockey team in Kazakhstan, the only representative of the country in the KHL. Although recent seasons have not been the best for the club, its history includes successful periods. In addition, the team holds several records of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Barys record in the KHL

The KHL has dozens of notable records, and one of them is held by the Astana club.

Betting on hockey attracts with its dynamics and high scoring — in this regard, hockey matches even surpass football ones. It is the KHL record for scoring in a single game that belongs to the Kazakh team. On January 4, 2009, in a home match of Barys against Vityaz, a result was recorded that has not been beaten to this day. The opponents together scored 17 goals, and the final score recorded Barys' victory 11:6. The goals by periods were distributed as follows:

  • 1st period — 4:1;
  • 2nd period — 5:1;
  • 3rd period — 2:4.

The closest to such scoring were Spartak and Moscow Dynamo, who played 8:7 in December 2023, including overtime. Also, 15 goals were scored in the match between Vityaz and Minsk Dynamo — that game took place in 2016 and ended with a score of 9:6.

The record for scoring in a match involving Barys has stood for more than 15 years, and the mark of 17 goals per game still looks difficult to achieve.

World record for scoring

Here it is appropriate to draw a parallel with the NHL. The National Hockey League is considered a tournament where matches are more spectacular and productive. Moreover, the history of this championship dates back to 1917, so the NHL had much more time to set records — the KHL, founded in 2008, is almost a hundred years younger.

The highest-scoring game in the NHL ended with a score of 12:9. This result was recorded in 1985 in a match between the Edmonton Oilers and the Chicago Blackhawks.
