About the Smart brand

Germany founded in 1994 Model range

The Mercedes-Benz Cars Group division, part of the Daimler AG concern, appeared in 1994 in Böblingen. Initially, it was created as a joint venture Micro Compact Car AG, which included the Swiss watch company Swatch, which left the co-founders a few years later. The goal of the project was to develop an ultra-compact city car.

The first Smart concept car was presented to the public in 1997 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Serial production began in 1998 and was launched at factories in Böblingen, Germany, and Hambach, France.

In 2002, management renamed Micro Compact Car AG to Smart GmbH. Today, two city car models are produced under this brand — Smart Fortwo and Smart Fortwo Cabrio. Previously, the model range included Smart City Coupe and Cabrio, Smart Roadster, Smart Crossblade, and Smart Forfour.

The brand's entry into the Ukrainian market was planned for 2012.
