For several months now, dealers have been selling the first Skoda Octavia assembled in Kaluga. For now, buyers have access to only one body type — the hatchback, but the engine range is quite wide. Thus, the Octavia can boast petrol units 1.6 FSI or 2.0 FSI, while the Octavia Tour is available with 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8T engines.

Apparently, the modification with the 1.6 FSI engine and automatic transmission will be the most popular. Inside, everything is done solidly: upholstery parts are fitted neatly, finishing materials are of high quality. The instrument panel is easy to read, and the buttons are conveniently placed. If you look for differences between the Kaluga and Czech assembly, the only noticeable difference is the 17-digit identification number. Otherwise, the cars are identical.

A drive in the car left no doubt that the assembly is done to a high standard. No extraneous noises, no rattling plastic in the cabin — everything works as it should. The change in production location has not affected comfort, handling, or parameters related to active safety.

In the Volkswagen Group, they promise that by 2009 the Kaluga plant will switch to a full production cycle, including welding and painting of bodies. At the same time, quality requirements will remain as strict as before.

Plans

For 2008, assembly of 66,000 cars of two brands — Volkswagen and Skoda — is planned. By the end of the year, the Fabia model will be added to the Octavia. Launching production in Russia has significantly reduced car prices.
