About the MINI brand
United Kingdom founded in 1959 Model range
The British brand Mini was founded in 1959. Its creator was British Motor Corporation designer Alec Issigonis, who developed a revolutionary compact car that later became legendary. In 1961, Formula 1 driver John Cooper prepared a sports version of this model — the Mini Cooper. Over 40 years of production, total sales of Mini cars exceeded 5 million units, and in 2000 production of the model was discontinued.
In 2001, the BMW Group renamed the brand: the name began to be written in capital letters — MINI. At the same time, production of a completely new model, stylistically inspired by its popular predecessor, began.
