The Land Rover brand originated in 1948 as a division of the Rover Group, focusing on the production of off-road vehicles.
In 1994, the BMW Group acquired Rover Group, but by 2000 it began selling off assets, keeping only Mini. Land Rover was sold to the Ford Corporation. In 2008, the brand changed hands again, coming under the control of India's Tata Motors.
Today, Land Rover continues to produce exclusively off-road vehicles.
