Jeep Brand: Origin and Specialization
The American brand Jeep was officially registered in 1950. Its history began with the company Willys Overland, which in 1945 introduced a civilian version of the military off-road vehicle Willys MB — the Willys CJ (Civilian Jeep) model. It is believed that the name Jeep may have originated from the abbreviation GP (general purpose).
Today, Jeep is part of the Chrysler corporation and maintains its narrow specialization: the company produces exclusively off-road vehicles.
