30. License plates, identification marks, inscriptions and designations
30.1. Owners of mechanical vehicles and trailers thereto must register (re-register) them with the authorized body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or conduct departmental registration if mandatory registration is established by law, regardless of their technical condition, within 10 days from the moment of acquisition (receipt), customs clearance or conversion or repair, if changes to registration documents are necessary.

30.2. On mechanical vehicles (except trams and trolleybuses) and trailers, number plates of the appropriate standard are installed in the places provided for this purpose.

On trams and trolleybuses, registration numbers provided by the relevant authorized bodies are applied.

It is prohibited to change the dimensions, shape, markings, color and placement of number plates, except for the case of attaching the rear number plate to additional equipment intended for temporary transportation of luggage or cargo, to apply additional markings to them or to cover them; they must be clean and sufficiently illuminated.

30.3. The following identification signs are installed on the relevant vehicles (annex 4):
a) "Road train" - three orange lights located horizontally above the front part of the cab (body) with gaps between the lights from 150 to 300 mm - on trucks and wheeled tractors (class 1.4 t and above) with trailers, as well as on articulated buses and trolleybuses;
b) "Deaf driver" - a yellow circle with a diameter of 160 mm with three black circles with a diameter of 40 mm applied inside, located at the corners of an imaginary equilateral triangle whose apex is directed downward. The sign is placed at the front and rear on vehicles driven by deaf or deaf-mute drivers;
c) "Children" - a yellow square with a red border and a black image of the symbol of road sign 1.33 (side of the square - at least 250 mm, border - 1/10 of this side). The sign is placed at the front and rear on vehicles transporting organized groups of children;
d) "Long vehicle" - two yellow rectangles measuring 500 x 200 mm with a red border 40 mm wide made of reflective material. The sign is placed on vehicles (except route vehicles) at the rear horizontally (or vertically) and symmetrically to the longitudinal axis, the length of which is from 12 to 22 m.
Long vehicles whose length with or without cargo exceeds 22 m, as well as road trains with two or more trailers (regardless of total length) must have an identification sign placed at the rear (in the form of a yellow rectangle measuring 1200 x 300 mm with a red border 40 mm wide) made of reflective material. On the sign, a black image of a truck with a trailer is applied and their total length in meters is indicated;
e) "Driver with disability" - a blue square with a side of 150 mm and a white image of the symbol of table 7.17. The sign is placed at the front and rear on mechanical vehicles driven by drivers with disabilities or drivers transporting passengers with disabilities;

f) "Orange plate" - an orange rectangle with a reflective surface and a black border. The dimensions of the sign, the inscriptions of identification numbers of danger and dangerous cargo, if required, and its placement on vehicles are determined by the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road;

g) "Danger sign" - an information plate in the form of a rhombus on which a danger sign is depicted. The image, dimensions and placement of plates on vehicles are determined by the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road;

h) "Column" - a yellow square with a red border, in which the letter "K" is inscribed in black (side of the square - at least 250 mm, border width - 1/10 of this side). The sign is placed at the front and rear on vehicles moving in a column;
i) "Doctor" - a blue square (side - 140 mm) with an inscribed green circle (diameter - 125 mm), on which a white cross is applied (stroke length - 90 mm, width - 25 mm). The sign is placed at the front and rear on cars belonging to doctors-drivers (with their consent).
If the identification sign "Doctor" is placed on a vehicle, it must contain a special medical first aid kit and instruments according to the list determined by the Ministry of Health for providing qualified assistance during a road traffic accident;
j) "Oversized cargo" - signal shields or flags measuring 400 x 400 mm with alternating red and white stripes applied diagonally (width - 50 mm), and in the dark and in conditions of insufficient visibility - reflectors or lights: white at the front, red at the rear, orange on the sides. The sign is placed on the extreme outer parts of the cargo protruding beyond the dimensions of the vehicle by a distance greater than provided for in clause 22.4 of these Rules;
k) "Maximum speed limit" - an image of road sign 3.29 indicating the permitted speed (sign diameter - at least 160 mm, border width - 1/10 of the diameter). The sign is placed (applied) at the rear left on mechanical vehicles driven by drivers with up to 2 years of experience, large and heavy vehicles, agricultural machinery whose width exceeds 2.6 m, vehicles carrying out road transportation of dangerous goods, in the case of transporting passengers by a truck, as well as in cases where the maximum speed of the vehicle according to its technical characteristics or certain traffic conditions determined by the National Police bodies is lower than established in clauses 12.6 and 12.7 of these Rules;

l) "Identification automobile sign of Ukraine" - a white ellipse with a black border and the Latin letters UA applied inside. The lengths of the ellipse axes must be 175 and 115 mm. It is placed at the rear on vehicles in international traffic;
ї) "Identification sign of a vehicle" - a special tape made of reflective film with red and white stripes applied at an angle of 45 degrees, alternating. The sign is placed on vehicles at the rear horizontally and symmetrically to the longitudinal axis as close as possible to the outer dimension of the vehicle, and on vehicles with a van body - also vertically. On vehicles used for road works, as well as on vehicles of special shape and their equipment, the sign is also placed at the front and on the sides.
The identification sign is mandatory on vehicles used for road works, agricultural machinery with a width exceeding 2.6 m, as well as on vehicles of special shape. On other vehicles, the identification sign is placed at the discretion of their owners;

й) "Taxi" - squares of contrasting color (side - at least 20 mm), placed in a checkerboard pattern in two rows. The sign is installed on the roof of vehicles or applied to their side surface. At least five squares must be applied;
к) "Training vehicle" - an equilateral triangle of white color with the apex upward and a red border, with a black letter "Н" inscribed (side - at least 200 mm, border width - 1/10 of this side). The sign is placed at the front and rear on vehicles used for driving training (installation of a double-sided sign on the roof of a passenger car is allowed);

л) "Spikes" - an equilateral triangle of white color with the apex upward and a red border, with a black letter "Ш" inscribed (triangle side - at least 200 mm, border width - 1/10 of the side). The sign is placed at the rear on vehicles equipped with studded tires.
30.4. Identification signs are placed at a height of 400-1600 mm from the road surface so that they do not restrict visibility and are clearly visible to other road users.
30.5. To indicate a flexible coupling during towing, flags or shields of 200 x 200 mm size are used with alternating red and white stripes applied diagonally, made of reflective material 50 mm wide (except when using a flexible coupling with a coating of reflective material).

30.6. The emergency stop sign in accordance with GOST 24333-97 is an equilateral triangle made of reflective red strips with an internal fluorescent red insert.
30.7. It is prohibited to apply images or inscriptions on the external surfaces of vehicles that coincide with the color graphic schemes, identification signs, or inscriptions of vehicles of operational and special services, as provided by DSTU 3849:2018.
