11. Positioning of vehicles on the road
11.1. The number of lanes on the carriageway for the movement of trackless vehicles is determined by road markings or road signs 5.16, 5.17.1, 5.17.2, and in their absence - by the drivers themselves, taking into account the width of the carriageway of the corresponding direction of travel, the dimensions of vehicles and safe intervals between them.
11.2. On roads that have two or more lanes for traffic in one direction, trackless vehicles must drive as close as possible to the right edge of the carriageway, except when overtaking, avoiding an obstacle, or changing lanes before turning left or making a U-turn.
{Clause 11.2 as amended by Resolution of the CM No. 111 of 11.02.2013}
11.3. On roads with two-way traffic that have one lane for traffic in each direction, in the absence of a solid road marking line or corresponding road signs, driving onto the lane of oncoming traffic is allowed only for overtaking and avoiding an obstacle, or for stopping or parking at the left edge of the carriageway in populated areas in permitted cases, while drivers of the oncoming direction have the right of way.
11.4. On roads with two-way traffic that have at least two lanes for traffic in one direction, it is prohibited to drive onto the side of the road intended for oncoming traffic.
11.5. On roads that have two or more lanes for traffic in one direction, driving onto the far left lane for traffic in the same direction is allowed if the right lanes are occupied, as well as for turning left, making a U-turn, or for stopping or parking on the left side of a road with one-way traffic in populated areas, when this does not contradict the stopping (parking) rules.
11.6. On roads that have three or more lanes for traffic in one direction, trucks with a permissible maximum mass of more than 3.5 t, tractors, self-propelled machines and mechanisms are allowed to drive onto the far left lane only for turning left and making a U-turn, and in populated areas on roads with one-way traffic, in addition, for stopping on the left, in permitted cases, for the purpose of loading or unloading.
11.7. Vehicles whose speed must not exceed 40 km/h or which for technical reasons cannot develop such speed must drive as close as possible to the right edge of the carriageway, except when overtaking, avoiding an obstacle, or changing lanes before turning left or making a U-turn.
11.8. On tram tracks of the same direction located at the same level as the carriageway for trackless vehicles, movement is allowed provided that this is not prohibited by road signs or road markings, as well as during overtaking, avoiding an obstacle, when the width of the carriageway is insufficient to perform the avoidance without driving onto the tram tracks.
At an intersection, it is allowed to drive onto tram tracks of the same direction in the same cases, but provided that there are no road signs 5.16 - 5.19.3 before the intersection.
{Paragraph two of clause 11.8 as amended by Resolution of the CM No. 1091 of 29.09.2021}
Turning left or making a U-turn must be performed from tram tracks of the same direction located at the same level as the carriageway for trackless vehicles, unless a different traffic order is provided by road signs 5.16, 5.18 or marking 1.18.
In all cases, no obstacles must be created for the movement of trams.
11.9. It is prohibited to drive onto tram tracks of the oncoming direction, tram tracks separated from the carriageway, and the dividing strip.
11.10. On roads where the carriageway is divided into traffic lanes by road marking lines, it is prohibited to drive while occupying two lanes at the same time. Driving onto broken marking lines is allowed only during lane changing.
11.11. In heavy traffic, changing lanes is allowed only to avoid an obstacle, turn, make a U-turn, or stop.
11.12. A driver who is turning onto a road that has a lane for reversible traffic may change into it only after passing a reversible traffic light with a signal permitting movement, and if this does not contradict clauses 11.2, 11.5 and 11.6 of these Rules.
11.13. It is prohibited to drive vehicles on sidewalks and pedestrian paths, except when they are used for performing work or servicing trade and other enterprises located directly near these sidewalks or paths, in the absence of other access roads and provided that the requirements of clauses 26.1-26.3 of these Rules are met.
11.14. Movement on the carriageway on bicycles, mopeds, horse-drawn carts (sleds) and riding animals is allowed only in one row along the right extreme lane as far to the right as possible, except when avoiding an obstacle. Turning left and making a U-turn is allowed on roads with one lane for traffic in each direction and without tram tracks in the middle. Movement on the shoulder is allowed if it does not create obstacles for pedestrians.
