Dodge Challenger: prices and specifications

2 generations Country of origin: United States

Dodge Challenger is a legendary model of the American brand Dodge. The car first appeared on sale in 1959 under the name Silver Challenger. Since 1970, the model has been produced as the Challenger, which translates from English as "challenger." With this name, the company challenged competitors such as the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.

First Generation

Work on the first generation began in 1968. The exterior design was developed by renowned specialist Carl Cameron, who had previously worked on the appearance of the 1966 Dodge Charger. Serial production started in 1970. The model was produced in two body styles: a two-door coupe and a convertible. However, its assembly line life was short-lived — the car was discontinued in 1974.

Second Generation (Modern)

The Chrysler company, which bought a controlling stake in Dodge, decided to revive the legendary model in December 2007. The official presentation took place a year later at two auto shows simultaneously — in Chicago and Philadelphia. Designers preserved the exterior features of the first generation, but the car's dimensions significantly increased compared to the 1970 original. The model is built on the global Chrysler LC platform and is produced only as a two-door coupe. In addition to original Dodge components, the car uses parts from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (front suspension elements) and E-Class (rear multi-link suspension, rear differential, five-speed automatic transmission, electronic stability control).

The model is not officially imported to Ukraine. Unofficial dealers offer several modifications: Challenger Standard, Challenger R/T, Challenger SRT8, and others. The model is equipped with gasoline engines ranging from 3.6 to 6.4 liters. They are paired with a six-speed manual or two automatic transmissions — four- and five-speed. Drive is rear-wheel, with all-wheel drive available as an option.
