Citroen Jumpy: model history

Citroen Jumpy is a passenger minivan created as part of a joint project between Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat. The model name translates from English as "jumping" or "leaping". The goal of the collaboration was to develop a family of compact vehicles for small businesses.

The idea of creating a line of compact cargo and passenger-cargo vehicles arose from the management of the Fiat concern in the mid-1990s. The Italian company considered it unwise to implement the project independently, so they began looking for partners in neighboring countries. At the same time, Citroen and Peugeot were considering developing new commercial vehicles, and Fiat's offer came at the right time. The development and production of the family were decided to be organized at the Sevel Nord plant, and the platform was jointly created by engineers from all three brands. The design of the vehicles, which included three body modifications (minivan, van and chassis), was also developed jointly. As a result, the Citroen Jumpy differs from its "related" Fiat Scudo and Peugeot Expert only in some exterior details — badges and front bumper design. The model was tested in 1993–1994, and serial production started in 1995. In 2004, the entire Jumpy family underwent a facelift.

The second generation of the model was introduced in 2007. The car became larger, received an updated exterior and interior, as well as an expanded range of available engines.

In Ukraine, sales of the second-generation Citroen Jumpy began in 2008. The model is supplied to the local market in two body styles: a van and a passenger minivan designed to carry nine people.

For the Ukrainian market, the Citroen Jumpy is offered with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The car has front-wheel drive.
