According to the organization, there are already 163 complaints from Toyota owners. It is unknown which models are involved, and there is no information yet about the years of manufacture of the cars.
Among the specific examples, the administration cites an appeal from the owner of a 2010 Corolla model, who stated that his car began to accelerate on its own when, while standing in a parking lot, he shifted the gearbox lever into reverse mode. As the car owner claims, he managed to switch to parking mode, which made it possible to avoid a collision.

NHTSA believes that this problem may be related to an error in the electronic throttle control system, which was already the cause of mass recalls in 2009. The previous recall campaign cost Toyota 1.2 billion dollars.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that it will thoroughly investigate the issue and complaints before contacting Toyota with demands to compensate for damages and eliminate possible defects.
